It is good to see Sarah taking a more keen interest in growing. Now at least Paul might finally get a decent attempt at some steps cut into that precipice he calls a garden.
Evening Dallas - trust you had a good trip home. Great to see you again and glad to have such esteemed company in my humble garden. parsnips now sown and seed potatoes in. three beds down and two to go.
I presume you "station" sewed fresh seed for those parsnips, with three or four seeds per station. Germination is erratic so you just pull out any multiples. Most hardened gardeners will then chuck the remaining seed, or alternatively sew 10 to a station next year and see if anything comes up.
Just supervised the delivery of ten bags of horse shit in the garden. presume you just dig it in thoroughly. How soon can you plant. Thinking about a couple of rows of main crop spuds. Talking of bags of shit shame to see Matt Colyer go - always liked the guy!
Yes, you just dig it in thoroughly for potatoes, or alternatively pay someone else to do it for you. Potatoes are fairly happy in fresh manure along with the likes of celeriac, courgette and pumpkin. Others are less so -especially carrots and other roots. Enjoy your holiday but herein contributors to this site are only allowed one 7-day holiday between March and the end of October each year. No doubt you'll be keeping up with the news from Sanfran, or perhaps the paid shitdigger will also be blogging on your behalf?
Can you two start a new thread as all these gems are missing in the blog - its easy to do, and if its a veg question put it in the category called veg matters - Soil Baron can you suggest some other classifications please
No dont be silly they need to be below ground
