Raised expectations

How about this for the ultimate in raised bed chic? The Incas were well known for their vegetable growing (potatoes, tomatoes etc) but Peruvian archaeologists have yet to unearth any raised beds like this. Rhubarb doing well, note (despite yesterday's snow).

  2. My earlier very witty comment went astray - basically it was along the lines of - impressive structure do the locals call it Adrian's wall and if you keep going you will soon have a house. You need to sign up for a dry stone wall course as it looks a bit dodgy at one end - interesting stones though presumably all recovered by Azada?

  3. The photo (looking northwesterly) is slightly deceptive since the hill in the background is on the other side of a valley. Nevertheless the plot is quite open on the shoulder of a hill. It is sheltered by trees from the east/southeast and there are houses and old farm buildings to the north, but the we are horribly exposed to the other directions. If you click on the image, you may be able to see the double line hedge we have planted, which runs for 130m along the west and part of the north boundary and should give us some shelter from the wild winds in a few years’ time, as well as ingredients for my elderflower cordial, rosehip syrup, sloe gin, rowan jelly, hazelnut spread, gorse sorber etc. The wall is work in progress, Al. There will be plenty more stones to choose from in the final design.
